Become a member

Why join a church?
Church membership is a statement that you are a follower of Jesus Christ.  In an ancient letter
to the church at Corinth, the Apostle Paul wrote, "the body does not consist of one member,
but of many." (1 Corinthians 12)   Membership is a commitment to a particular community of faith
- publicly accepting your responsibility to participate actively and regularly in the life of the congregation.

What do you expect of members?
Members are called to make a good faith effort to attend worship; to live a Christian life;
to share in the life and work of the church; and to contribute to its support and missions.

Membership is open to those of confirmation age (middle school) and older.

What if I choose not to join?
Visitors and friends of the congregation may participate in all parts of our common life:
worship, the sacraments, fellowship, service and faith formation activities. The only activity
for which membership is required is voting at one of the congregation’s business meetings.
When can I join?
There's no official length of time you need to attend before becoming a member.
We encourage you to try worshipping with us for a while, getting to know the community
and joining in our fellowship, before you decide whether membership is right for you.

How do I join?
When you feel ready to make this commitment, have a word with our pastor. For baptized adults,
we offer a 3-part series called "More than a Membership Class" that will offer you a chance to share
your spiritual journey, and explore how faith and action go together. If you have not been baptized,
our pastor will be glad to spend additional time with you in the process of baptismal preparation.
New to the UCC? We'll also have a chance to explore what makes the UCC unique.

For youth in seventh through twelfth grade, we offer OMG!, a confirmation class especially geared
toward adolescent faith development.  We explore together what it means to be a follower of Jesus
and what it means to join a community of faith.

Following the new member class or confirmation class, we have a celebration during Sunday worship,
including either baptism (if you haven't been baptized previously) or reaffirming your Christian faith.
