Join the ACTion team in raising awareness of HIV/AIDS! The McFarland UCC ACTion Team is a Health and
Wellness Mission to
Raise Awareness of HIV/AIDS in our local community and around the
world. Each summer we participate in Wisconsin's AIDS Ride (this year was ACT9). Two of our members trained for a 300 mile trek in August, and others supported them through fundraising and volunteering. Think about these ways you could help with next year's ride!
Donate Energy Food The riders need healthy food like bananas, peanut butter, grapes, oatmeal cookies, trail mix, and pretzels to keep their energy up! A cooler will be set-up outside of the main church entrance to collect your donations of food. The u-pit volunteers will take the goodies to water stops each morning. Join us for the pit stops! Each day has an entertaining theme, and both riders and volunteers dress up. Volunteers set up and manage a water stop for thirsty riders - usually with decorations that match the day's theme. Previous themes have included "A Day at the Beach", "Giddyup and Ride", and "Red Day". We have helped out in some way with every day of the ride! Prepare and serve dinner with the crew The ACT Ride staff has their system down. But they need many volunteers to prepare and serve nutritious evening meals to more than 100 riders each evening. In 2011, our youth group added a bit of fun by serving ice cream sandwiches and treats on the last night of the ride. | Cheer on our riders by email Encouraging email messages can be sent through the ACT Ride website, and are delivered to riders at the end of every day. Check back here shortly before the ride for a convenient link to the message form. Pray We offer an extended version of this prayer in worship, along with the laying on of hands, on the Sunday before the ride: O God, we find your presence wherever we go. We ask your blessing upon these bicycles, For those who travel upon them, For those who minister alongside them. For those who feed the riders, And for those who offer a drink of cool water no less refreshing than water dipped from a well in the desert. For those who heal, for those who encourage, For those whose spirits join the ride, even when their bodies cannot, We seek a blessing. Surround them with your loving care; Protect them from every danger, Wrap them in the arms of a supportive community committed to creating goodness upon the earth, and bring them in safety to all their journeys’ end. And let the people of God say, Amen. |
