Making A Mess at the McFarland Family Festival

9/8/2014

The warmth of summer will soon make way for the cool of autumn -- and the season for Sundaes on Thursdays might be past -- but that won't stop us from making our presence known and engaging with the community.  On Sept. 19-21, MUCC will be participating in the McFarland Family Festival. Once again, we'll offer our popular (but messy) fingerpainting table under the Big Top.

Our table will be open Friday evening, all day on Saturday, and Sunday after the parade. Look for the big tent in the McFarland High School parking lot.

In brightly colored fingerpaint, last year’s participants answered the question, “What should church be like?” Some took their paintings home at the end of the festival; others were brought back to the church and used in a photo project.  Parishioners were invited to bring the paintings home and pray for the unknown person who created them.
This year, children and adults will be able to make their own colorful creations while reflecting on similar “What if...” questions.

“Our goal is to help people re-imagine church,” Pastor Kerri Parker said. “We’ll have information about Messy Church, prayer stations and the other unconventional ways we do church.”

The church’s participation in the festival is a tangible reminder that the church was not established to gather in private and serve its own needs. Instead, we are called to connect with the community around us, and equip people to ask faithful questions in their own places of work, play, and learning.

Please stop by the MUCC booth and offer your greetings. Bring some friends who may want to know more about our church, and don’t be shy about getting your hands dirty!
