Are you thinking about church camp yet?

12/29/2014

The Wisconsin Conference of the United Church of Christ has two gems available for you to enjoy.  Pilgrim Center (on Green Lake) and Moon Beach (near St. Germain) offer camp programs for everyone.  Whether it's a week of youth camp, family camp, or adults-only retreats, there's sure to be something to refresh you, and maybe set your soul on fire!

We have many experienced campers in our church.  If you want to know more, ask, and we'll connect you with someone who can answer your questions! *

Registration for the 2015 camping season begins on Friday, January 2.
Post by United Church Camps, Inc.
*We are able to provide some financial assistance if money is a barrier, and the camps ALSO have scholarship programs.  Don't let the cost stop you from exploring this possibility.

December Events

12/18/2014

McFarland UCC has a December calendar of events that's all about building relationships inside and outside the building.

Christmas Caroling

Some church members tuned up their voices and sang Christmas carols to shut-ins Dec. 13.  Tom Ludwig said the shut-ins are long-time members of MUCC located in a number of locations in the Madison area, including Monona, Fitchburg and Stoughton.  Many of them are not able to attend services due to chronic health conditions.

“I think being a church with heart means much more than what goes on inside the walls,” he said.  “These people have had a long-time connection, and it’s important to maintain those connections by reaching out to them when they can’t come and be inside our walls with us.”

A Note from the Moderator

12/18/2014

Brothers, Sisters, Friends …

We’ve arrived at Advent and my deep wish that you feel the season, find ways to share the light of Christ in your life and take time to gather hope and love into your home as we wait for the Baby Jesus to be born. May the hustle of the season bring you energy and not weigh you down.

In addition to an exciting Advent season at McFarland UCC, there’s also a lot of leadership work happening behind the scenes, to set the stage for 2015 and beyond.

Our Annual Meeting/Celebration Sunday will be on February 1st. This is a Sunday in which we’ll take the time to review how far we’ve come as a group of disciples and start to embark into 2015.

I have four highlights to share with you so you have an awareness of what is happening behind-the-scenes, and what we’ll be voting on in February:

Sabbatical 2016 - an invitation to conversation.

12/13/2014

Our Servant Leadership Team (SaLT) has recruited a small workgroup (Carolyn Bell, Tom Ludwig, and Joan Jacobsen) to support the planning of a sabbatical for Pastor Kerri.  According to the terms of call, she is eligible for a sabbatical after five years of ministry with us.  We will reach that point in late 2015.

The Sabbatical Planning Team has met twice and invites you to attend one of their information sessions to hear about some initial information regarding Pastor Kerri’s sabbatical.  The first information session will be held after worship on Sunday, December 14.  The second session is scheduled for Friday, January 2 at 10 am.

If you are unable to attend either session and have questions about the activities of this group, please do not hesitate to contact any member of the Sabbatical Planning Team.

This is one in a series of informational sessions about items on the agenda for our upcoming Annual Meeting/Celebration on February 1.   Keep watching for more!
