Racial Justice Book Study
(discussions: September 17th @ 6pm & October 1st @ 6pm
)
Feel free to attend one or both sessions!

Many of us have been touched by the racial injustices that we've seen over the past several years, but this year - particularly with the George Floyd killing in Minneapolis - these events have really hit us in the core of our faith. We feel the need to educate ourselves on what has happened and is still happening to people of color in our country, and one way to do this is to educate ourselves by gathering information that we may not have been aware of. We've formed a book group to discuss some of the books on this subject, and the first book we're reading is "How to Be an Antiracist" by Ibram X. Kendi. Our first meeting (over Zoom) will be Thursday, September 17 at 6:00 pm and our second discussion meeting will be Thursday, October 1st at 6:00 pm. Please send an email to Jayne Fischer (jdfischer2@gmail.com) if you would like to join. All are welcome, and we're looking forward to a great discussion.

ONE LOVE: Interfaith Worship Event

2/16/2020

From Pastor Bryan Sirchio: "I think It is crucial for us to recognize and celebrate the One Love of the Divine at the heart of just about all major religious traditions, and to show honor and respect for what have traditionally been called the “Perennial Truths” that run through all religions. In this world of so much division and polarization, the more we can build bridges of understanding and love, the better.

This special service will help us recognize and give thanks for some of these common truths. The One Love Service occurs twice a year, each time inviting a practitioner from another religious tradition to be with us and share some kind of ritual or prayer or ceremony from that tradition that we as people in the Judeo-Christian tradition also embrace and honor. We warmly invite persons of all spiritual frameworks to join us for this experience of being present to the Divine as we worship together."

February 16, we were delighted to welcome Dr. Susan Mickel who shared insights and experiences based on her Buddhist practice.

Trick or Treat for UNICEF!

10/31/2019

Picture
Every year MUCC youth join kids across the country in raising money for less fortunate children around the world.  Kids may carry UNICEF boxes with them on their Halloween candy routes and collect donations as part of the Trick-Or-Treat for UNICEF program.  Boxes are available at the church and can be brought back after Halloween.  We will also be taking up a "noisy offering" during worship this Sunday, October 27th!  Bring your loose change and wear a costume!  Proceeds from the offering also go to UNICEF.

Thank you for pitching in and helping out this past weekend!  We had a good time sprucing up the church building and preparing for winter.  There were a lot of chores to do, but it was way more fun checking off the "to-do" list together.  THANK YOU again!

The FREE SALE FOR FAMILIES is a nonprofit organization offering community members and businesses a way to recycle children's items (infant-teen) for other individuals and families to reuse, regardless of income level or need. Freewill monetary donations are accepted in exchange for the items and are then given to local charities and non-profit organizations. We are thrilled to open our doors to this incredible event! Click the button to the left to see all the information on the organization's Facebook page.
