Introducing Our Interim Pastor

Picture
The Rev. Dr. Michael Bausch is a Wisconsin native with many years of experience serving UCC congregations in California, Wisconsin, and Iowa. Most recently he served as the interim pastor for two UCC churches at Slinger and Hartford, Wisconsin.

He resides in Beaver Dam with his wife, the Rev. Catherine Ann Carlson, a retired UCC minister, and they have two daughters, Anica, of Madison, and Brianna, living in Waupun with her husband Aaron, and their two children.

Michael is a graduate of Carroll University in Wisconsin, the Pacific School of Religion in California, and the United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities.

Picture
Among the books he has published are Everflowing Streams: Songs for Worship (1981), Silver Screen, Sacred Story: Using Multimedia in Worship (2002), Feeding Imaginations: Worship That Engages (2015) and Drawn In: Encounters With Art (2017). A CD of his original songs, You Can't Stop The Music, will be released next month.

While serving churches, Michael was also part-time adjunct faculty at the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary and the Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, CA. and a lecturer teaching introductory courses in Old and New Testament at UW-Platteville.

Picture
In worship and teaching, he loves bringing together the Bible, music, art, and film. He enjoys being around church people of all ages, and every now and then you might hear him whistle a tune as he walks through the church building. You may call him by his first name, Michael or Mike, and if you wish to add Pastor or Reverend, he'll say that's all up to you.
For fun, he plays tennis and pickle ball, and plays acoustic guitar as well as harmonica in several musical groups.

When you join us for one of these upcoming activities,
you’ll have a chance to experience the story of Easter – and the events leading up to it - in fresh ways.

You won't want to miss this lively service with palm branches for everyone and a play developed by children of the congregation!  CLICK HERE for a video invitation.

Messy Easter, April 9th 4:30 - 6:30 pm

Engage your inner child with storytelling, arts and crafts as we retell the Easter story in simple ways.  Remind yourself – and teach your dear ones – that the story of Easter has so much more to offer than mere brunch and bunnies.  Sunday April 9th.  Arrive between 4:30 and 4:45 pm.  Dinner is included.  We wrap up around 6:15 pm.   Questions about Messy Church?  Watch our video.

Dinner Church - Maundy Thursday, April 13th 6:15 pm

Good food, spiritual conversation and a chance to build relationships with your neighbors. Dinner church is one of the oldest expressions of church - gathering together, breaking bread, and making sense of scripture and life through conversation around the table.

Dinner and worship begin at 6:15, and we should be done by around 8 pm. (Would you like to help with prep and setup? Email us to be connected with the ministry team, or arrive early; we create the setting together.)

As with all McFarland UCC activities, this is cross+generational - all ages are welcome at Dinner Church.

Christmas Week Services at McFarland UCC

12/16/2016

No Practice Christmas Pageant | December 18, 10 am

Picture
Our no-practice pageant takes place in the middle of worship on the Sunday immediately before Christmas.  Together, the church tells the beginning of the Good News of Jesus Christ.

Each year we find a way to make the story fresh. Join us for everything you love about a pageant (the costumes! the props!) and nothing you don't (say goodbye to endless rehearsals and unintended drama).

Everyone has a role - no acting experience required, no memorization either.  Speaking parts optional. There is an opportunity everyone to get involved in some way!

Christmas Eve Worship | December 24th, 7 pm

Picture
The Music of Christmas begins at 6:30 pm, offering beautiful musical preludes by piano, vocalists, and the McFarland UCC Brass as people enter the church and begin to find their seats.

Worship itself begins at 7 pm, a "candles, carols & communion" service appropriate for all ages.

Worried about your child making it through the service? We have an area available with resources for little ones, including soft blocks, picture books, coloring supplies, and rocking chairs.  There will be a special pastor's time with the children during the service.

We will hear a variety of readings from scripture and contemporary writers.  We practice an open communion table - the sacrament is open to all.  Bread is gluten-free and the cup holds grape juice.

Christmas Day Worship | December 25, 10 am

Picture
On Christmas morning, feel free to come in your most casual attire - bad Christmas sweaters, cozy clothing or footed pajamas are most welcome!

We'll bring our coffee and cocoa into the sanctuary, and have a relaxed, conversation-based worship experience.

Expect to sing carols, hear a piece of the story of the infant Jesus that doesn't often come up in our cycle of scripture, and reflect together on what meaning it has for us today.

December Events

12/18/2014

McFarland UCC has a December calendar of events that's all about building relationships inside and outside the building.

Christmas Caroling

Some church members tuned up their voices and sang Christmas carols to shut-ins Dec. 13.  Tom Ludwig said the shut-ins are long-time members of MUCC located in a number of locations in the Madison area, including Monona, Fitchburg and Stoughton.  Many of them are not able to attend services due to chronic health conditions.

“I think being a church with heart means much more than what goes on inside the walls,” he said.  “These people have had a long-time connection, and it’s important to maintain those connections by reaching out to them when they can’t come and be inside our walls with us.”
